Yashima

During the Spring/Summer season, we went on a weekend trip with the Raus to Yashima. Here we got to swim with dolphins! (sorry, no photos to show you.) We had a fun time sight seeing, visiting the aquarium, and mostly playing in the beautiful ocean.

Here you could buy little clay stones and transfer any bad thoughts, worries, stress, negative feelings, or whatever you wanted into the stone and then throw it off the side of the mountain. I loved the concept of just "letting go" of your worries and troubles.

Here's Mike about to throw his worries off the side of the mountain.

Here we are with the Raus with the blue ocean behind us.

The beach at Yashima. Here we found all kinds of sea life including jellyfish, turtles, slugs, and sand dollars. We also found sea shells and other "treasures!"

Hi,
I really enjoyed the photos. I've stood right where you stood, and also celebrated the "Kawara-nage" ceremony of throwing away the year's badness. I have dear friends who live ten minutes away from Mt. Yashima, and whose family has been there for generations. Like you, I taught English, but I was in Takamatsu (July '06-July '07). Thanks again for sharing your experience.
